Rumors linking Zinedine Zidane with the Man United job is no secret. The French manager himself is fully aware of the growing speculation linking him with the Old Trafford job and
has reportedly reached out to Mourinho as a result.
The Portuguese tactician is under heavy pressure early on in the season. After picking up only 10 points in the Premier League so far, their worst start after seven games since 1989, many predict that his sacking is on the horizon.
While these reports might be true, it appears Zizou is not comfortable with the perception that he is actively seeking to replace the Special One at the Theatre of Dreams. It wasn't too long ago when several news outlets claimed the World Cup winner is learning English and has drawn up his transfer wish-list in preparation for his inevitable England debut, but Zidane phoned the Red Devils boss in an attempt to squash these allegations.
This is according to the Sun, with the British tabloid writing in a recent report that the Frenchman reached out to the under-fire Mourinho to give assurances that he is not seeking to oust the 55-year-old. The three-time Champions League-winning manager insisted that he was merely asked by his representative if he would be interested in the Man United job and that there is nothing more to the rumors.
Nonetheless, the Sun states that Zidane's phone call made Jose all the more suspicious. The former Chelsea gaffer now strongly believes Ed Woodward is planning for his departure.
Mourinho's feature at the Theatre of Dreams looks grimmer after their embarrassing 3-1 loss at West Ham over the weekend. The club's two upcoming games will be crucial, as the Champions League clash with Valencia and Premier League encounter with Newcastle could save his reign, or end it.
