Jon Jones might not have to wait much longer to return to action, as UFC president Dana White told ESPN's Brett Okamoto that the promotion is working to get the 31-year-old
on the card for UFC 232 against Alexander Gustafsson.
That event is scheduled for Dec. 29th in Las Vegas, roughly two months after Jones is eligible to return to competition following a 15-month suspension for a failed drug test.
Jones met Gustafsson at UFC 165 in 2013 for one of the greatest light heavyweight title fights of all-time. Jones won by unanimous decision but was pushed to near-defeat by his Swedish counterpart.
"It's one of the greatest light heavyweight title fights in history and I expect the rematch to be the same!!!" White said in a text message.
The two were supposed to meet again in 2014 but Gustafsson was forced out due to injury.
Representatives for Jones declined comment on the potential fight to Okamoto and Gustafsson's camp wasn't immediately available.
